Abstract instructions and requirements

  • Language: English
  • Character limit: Up to 3,400 characters, including spaces. This excludes authors’ names, affiliations, keywords, and any tables or graphs inserted as images.
  • Structure: Use a structured format with introduction, methods, results, and conclusion sections. Review carefully for typos, misspellings, and errors before submission.
  • Co-authors: You may list up to 15 co-authors per abstract.
  • Images:Images must be in JPEG or PNG format (maximum 640wx480h pixels, 1.5 MB).
  • Case reports: Case reports that present novel hypotheses, pathologies, treatments, or ethical issues are welcome. However, they are only likely to be selected if the originality is highlighted effectively.
  • Co-authors: You may list up to 15 co-authors per abstract.
  • Encore abstracts: Allowed if permitted by both the initial and subsequent conferences. Authors must disclose this at the end of the abstract: “This abstract was also submitted for the [insert meeting title] congress.
  • Ethical compliance: Research must adhere to the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism.
    • By submitting, you confirm that your work complies with ethical principles regarding live donation and research on human subjects.
  • Generative AI disclosure: If AI-assisted tools were used in writing, consult the “Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies” section and disclose accordingly during the submission process.
  • Embargo policy: For abstracts accepted for presentation and publication during WCN’26, the following embargo policy applies.

Abstract submission conditions

  • Accepted abstracts will be published online in Kidney International Reports®. No printed abstract book will be available.
  • Presenting authors must register for the congress by January 14, 2026, to have their abstract published and to present a poster. Failure to register by this date will result in the abstract not being published or presented.
    • Presenters must register using the same email used for abstract submission. If they fail to do so and do not communicate the change of email to the Abstract team, the abstract might not be published in Kidney International Reports® or presented onsite. WCN organizers will not be held responsible for non-publication.
  • If the presenting author is unable to attend, a co-author may present the abstract instead, provided they are registered.
    • The original presenter must inform the Abstract team ([email protected]) of the change by January 14, 2026 and provide the registration number of the new presenting author at the same time. Failure to do so will result in abstract withdrawal. No exceptions.
  • Abstract handling fee is 50 USD per abstract, non-refundable.
    • Fee waivers apply to submitters from low-income countries (as per World Bank income classifications)
    • Payment must be made via credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa). Bank transfers are not accepted.
  • Once submitted, abstracts cannot be edited or withdrawn.
  • All copyrights are assigned to the International Society of Nephrology (ISN).
  • All submitted abstracts will be considered for poster presentations.

Late-breaking clinical trials abstracts showcase groundbreaking data and significant advancements that would not have been available for the regular abstract deadline. The Scientific Program Working Group will review these abstracts for potential presentation at WCN’26.

Key considerations

  • These abstracts highlight novel, practice-changing studies, including the latest trial data and research findings.
  • This is not an extension of the general submission deadline.
  • A placeholder abstract must be submitted during the regular submission period (deadline: October 22, 2025).

  • Accepted abstracts will be published online in Kidney International Reports® upon author confirmation. No printed abstract book will be available.
  • Selected abstracts may be invited for oral presentation at WCN’26.
  • Presenting authors must register for the congress by January 14, 2026, to have their abstract published and to present a poster. Failure to register by this date will result in the abstract not being published or presented.
    • Presenters must register using the same email used for abstract submission. If they fail to do so and do not communicate the change of email to the Abstract team, the abstract might not be published in Kidney International Reports® or presented onsite.   • To submit a late-breaking clinical trials abstracts: log in to your congress profile, go to My Abstracts > Submit New Abstract > Select “Late-breaking Abstract Submission”.

Post-submission updates

  • To update your abstract, submit a letter of intent to [email protected] by January 14, 2026.

After submitting your abstract, you will receive a confirmation email within two business days. If you do not see the email, please check your spam folder.

For submissions made on the final deadline (October 22, 2025), if you do not receive confirmation within 48 hours, contact [email protected] to ensure your submission was received.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified via email by December 3, 2025.

ISN Grants Best Abstract Awards

Awarded to the best three abstracts submitted by participants in the ISN Fellowship, Clinical Research and Mentorship programs (three awards per program)

Eligibility:

  • Abstract authors must have participated in the ISN Fellowship, Clinical Research or Mentorship program within the past five years
  • Submitted abstract must be related to their activities in that program

Prize:

  • Complimentary registration for WCN’26
  • Monetary prize for each program’s winners (more information to come)
  • Presentation of the abstract at the Grants Awards session at WCN’26
  • Award certificate
  • Recognition on the WCN’26 website, app, and ISN social media channels 

Young Nephrologists Best Abstract Awards
Two awards will be given for the Best Basic Science Abstract and Best Clinical Research abstract, selected by the ISN Young Nephrologists Committee

Eligibility: Abstract authors must be under 40 years old

Prize:

  • Complimentary registration for WCN’26
  • Up to €3,500 for travel and accommodation to attend WCN’26
  • Presentation of the abstract at the Young Nephrologists Committee session, part of the WCN’26 scientific program
